Past narrative

As a child, I used to be afraid of water, but knowing how to swim was a rule in our family. One summer when I was six , my mother took me to the  swimming pool . There was a special swimming pool for the kids and hopefully it wasn’t that much deep for me as I was tall, but we were soon transferred to an other pool which  was deep! Although I had my swimming ring , I was still afraid. I never enjoyed the days on which I had swimming class, because of my fear and also of my humiliation, and that was suffering. One day I decided to face my fear, regarding that the guards would save me in case of drowning. Unbelievably I was able to paddle my feet and little by little I was enjoying the touch of water on my skin. That was the time when I first realized to run towards my fears and not to run away from them.

The old man had an oblong face with a small chubby chin and a big Adam’s apple. His dim eyes were narrow and dark that were partly covered by his thick eyebrows. A boney nose which was at the same time long, was in the middle of his face . We can hardly notice his thin lips as they were like two lines. The old man was bald and his head was as reflective as a mirror.

There are a lot reasons that I’m fond of literature . The most significant one is because of my family. I remember my mom reading short stories for me before going to bed. That was the time when I first realized that knowing about literature is like being introduced to a new world. Besides that, literature can be an escape from the frustrations of real world; on the other hand it may sometimes be facing the truth, for instance my insight has changed a lot since reading novels. Another reason of my interest in literature is that I seek pleasure in it.

Our yard used to be our childhood kingdom, where I spent almost all my fun hours. Even right now I can picture every detail of its great trees and colorful flowers, which were covering all the little gardens. The smell of spring narcisses and vivid roses was spread in the early hours of the day. In the heart of the yard was the old berry tree. Each summer the berries have different taste; once they were sweet and once they were juicy. The branches hold the fruits like a mother protecting her children and these branches were majestically embracing the sky; providing a shade for hot summer days. My brother had a tendency to climb these branches up to reach the sweetest berries that were exposed to the rays of sun. In that moment young birds started tweeting, feeling they were insecure in their light nest. In front of the berry tree was our small shallow pool. We never kept fish in that blue pool, as “Jingle” , our cat was a real hunter; therefore the fountain was excavated and it changed to our swimming pool.
